Securly Aware flagged a student’s email saying:
"Help Im sorry, i didn't know who else to talk to. I just brought a knife to my room and tried to cut my leg. It wasn't sharpened so it didn't do anything, so i got a razor. Im scared. I know this isn't right, but i can't stop, I need to see the blood. I know it's wrong but I can't stop and i need help, but i can't tell my parents because im scared they'll think im doing this for attention. I'm just so scared. What would have happened if the knife cut me? I don't know if i would have stopped. I don't want someone to find me in a pool of my own blood. Im shaking and i can't stop cryig. I want help, but it's so hard to ask for it. I don't know when you'll get this, but I want help. Anything you could do, please. I just want it to stop."
Aware prioritized the message, the Securly On-Call team analyst reviewed, and a notification was sent to the district within 4 minutes of the student sending the email. The district responded a few minutes later with:
“I was able to speak with mom immediately and asked her to check on Her daughter as an email flagged our filter for self-harm. She walked into her daughter’s room and found her in the act. I could hear mom say, “(Student Name)!” and (Student Name) started crying in the background. Mom said, “I got it. Have to go.”
