Article summary

Before you can use Securly MDM to manage Apple devices, you’ll need to set up APNS (Apple Push Notification Service) to allow the MDM to communicate with the devices.

You need to have an Apple ID to use for creating the APNS Certificate. Be sure to keep track of the Apple ID used for creating the certificate because you must use the same ID when it’s time to renew the certificate each year. A place is provided to enter the ID for reference in the APNS setup area of Securly MDM.

To set up APNS:

  1. In Securly MDM, go to Settings > APNS.
  2. Enter the Apple ID that you’ll use in the Apple Push Certificate Portal. This field is for reference only, to provide a reminder as to the correct ID to use when it’s time to renew the certificate in the future.
  3. Click the link next to “Certificate Signing Request (CSR)” to download the CSR that you’ll upload to the Apple portal in a future step.
  4. In a separate tab, visit the Apple Push Certificate Portal and login with your Apple ID. You will need to use this same Apple ID in the future to renew the certificate.
  5. Click Create a Certificate.
  6. Click Choose File and upload the .csr file that you downloaded in step 3, above.
  7. Click Download to download your APNS certificate. The file will end with .pem.
  8. Return to Securly MDM and click “Choose file…” next to the Certificate field, then choose the certificate you downloaded from the Apple portal in step 7 above.
  9. Click Save.
